Tom Lembong’s Role in the Sugar Import Case Revealed
The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) revealed the role of former Minister of Trade (Mendag) Thomas Trikasih Lembong in the alleged corruption case regarding sugar import permits.
For your information, the man known as Tom Lembong is one of two people who have been named as suspects by investigators from the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) at the Attorney General’s Office. Both of them have also been detained as of today, Tuesday (29/10/2024).
According to the Director of Jampidsus Investigations at the Attorney General’s Office, Abdul Qohari, his party suspects that Tom played a role in giving assignments to private companies to import raw crystal sugar which then became white crystal sugar.
Even though the import was intended to stabilize sugar prices which had soared due to shortages at that time, Tom was suspected of violating a number of regulations.
